This vacancy is for a female, Christian volunteer.
Commitment: 1-2 hours per week, at a mutually agreed time.
Responsibilities:
- Meeting informally once a week with an individual or family seeking asylum or with refugee status, to get to know one another and offer informal relational support.
- Praying for the individual (or family) regularly.
- Liaising regularly with the Thrive Coordinator.
This could include, should it be mutually desired:
- Visiting their home; sharing tea and snacks together.
- Trips to parks and gardens (e.g. Abbey park, Bede park, Castle Gardens, Knighton Park, Western Park, Shady Lane, or even further afield e.g. Bradgate Park if you are able to offer suitable transport.)
- Trips to museums and galleries.
- Doing a creative activity together, if you are able to provide the relevant resources.
- Doing something musical or active together.
- Exploring what other hobbies the person might enjoy, and connecting them to relevant hobby groups where possible and appropriate.
Note – there may not always be someone desiring this kind of support. Similarly, we cannot guarantee that after the initial contact the individual would like to continue meeting. This volunteer role requires flexibility and adaptability.
Volunteers applying to this role must be willing to agree to comply with all of Thrive Leicester’s policies and procedures, and have an up-to-date DBS check, and sign a Volunteer Agreement form. They must also be in full agreement with our vision and abide by our values, and agree with our statement of faith.
