Introduction to Volunteering

Introduction to Thrive

Thrive Leicester is a small Christian unaffiliated organisation, supporting women and families seeking asylum and with refugee status, in Leicester. Our vision is for women and families in the asylum system to thrive – based on Jesus’ words in John 10:10 that He came so that people might have life in abundance, life to the full. We want to play a part in making this possible. We endeavour to support people to heal from trauma, build life-giving relationships, get stuck into community, and share their skills and talents with others. To go from surviving to thriving

We believe this is possible, even in the middle of really awful situations. We endeavour to work together to support people practically, emotionally, mentally, relationally and spiritually – in whatever ways we can.

Our vision is for asylum-seeking and refugee women to thrive, not just survive – to be true to who they are created to be; hopeful about life and the future; in good relationship with others and with God; invested in their own wellbeing; aware of their immense value; and showing empathy to those around them.

Our mission: Pursuing wholistic wellbeing for women seeking asylum and with refugee status in Leicester.

Volunteering with Thrive: an overview

Thank you for showing interest in volunteering! We are committed to treating you with respect and courtesy at all times, and to supporting you by prayer, ongoing conversation, and resources/training where appropriate.  This document is not intended to create a legally binding contract, and neither of us intend any paid employment relationship to be created – it is for the purpose of keeping good frameworks in place that enable us to function well.

Kat Gibson (the Thrive Coordinator) will give you primary support in your volunteer role; she will be available to discuss any matters of concern you may have. You will also need to identify another individual who you can pray with regularly and talk to about issues that arise for you. We call this role a ‘pastoral supervisor’, and it is an essential part of the support structure for all Thrive volunteers. We also expect that volunteers will have friends praying for them.
