Learning, Development and Training

Curiosity is one of our core values at Thrive – we want to be continually learning from the work and from those we engage with. We hope that each of our volunteers will identify some learning and development hopes or goals. We will offer you the opportunity to articulate these in your Volunteer Working Agreement, and we hope that you will intentionally put things in place to grow in these areas.

We are also committed to ensuring that all Thrive volunteers are appropriately trained for the responsibilities their role entails. For example, all volunteers working with vulnerable people must have robust up-to-date Safeguarding training, completed within the last two years. We encourage you to explore what training you might find helpful in your volunteer role, including topics such as:

  • Understanding more about working with asylum seekers & refugees
  • Understanding more about (and supporting people with) trauma
  • Avoiding burnout / compassion fatigue / vicarious trauma
  • Boundaries, communication and ‘good help’ (as opposed to ‘rescuing’)
  • Understanding Islam and engaging well in faith conversations

Please do have a think about what other training you might value. We cannot guarantee that we will provide or fund all the training that you hope to undertake, but we will endeavour to support you and all other volunteers in your learning and development goals as best we can.
